Mighty Warrior
The Story Behind the Song
Injustice fills the earth. Worldwide abortion claims the lives of over 50 million babies a year. Human trafficking right now enslaves 27-30 million people the majority as sex slaves. Grinding poverty holds entire nations and generation after generation under a vice grip of seeming hopelessness. What is the solution for the earth? The only solution is a one-world government under the leadership of Jesus Christ.
However, before Jesus returns to set up this government of true justice for the nations, a wicked man will seek to do the same thing. He will say that He is bringing “justice” to the earth but in reality, behind the scenes, he will be in partnership with a wicked global system (Revelation 17, 18) that will, in actuality, enslave people, exploit the poor and murder all who opposes it.
This day is quickly approaching us. As the pressure from this wicked government mounts, a cry will ring out all over the earth for justice. Isaiah prophesies that a song will come forth from the ends of the earth (Isaiah 24:16, 42:10-12). The nations will sing crying out for Jesus to return (Rev. 22:17). This song will bring the Mighty Warrior back to the earth. Then, the Lord will go forth like a Mighty Warrior. He will stir up His zeal like a Mighty Man of War. He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against all of His enemies. (Is. 42:13) He will throw this wicked leader (Rev. 19:20) and his followers (Rev. 20:15) who led the earth into murder, the worship of satan, sexual slavery, and the oppression of the poor (Joel 3:3, Rev 9:21, 18:13) into a lake of fire. Jesus and only Jesus will bring forth justice to the nations (Is. 42:1).
How did I write this song?
One night in 2006, in the Nightwatch at IHOP-KC, we were praying for our president. Before he prayed, the leader of the Nightwatch and one of my spiritual papas, Stuart Greaves shared from Isaiah 42. He told us of the real solution for the injustices of the earth—the Mighty Warrior, Jesus returning to
the earth. As he shared, my heart was touched powerfully. I began to sing Isaiah 42 several nights a week in my own personal times of prayer. I kept a journal of the things that I sang.
After several months of singing Isaiah 42, I was in my room at my keyboard. I thought, to myself, hmm I’ve never written a song in 6/8, I should try to write one. So, I pulled out my notebook of Isaiah 42 and began the process of writing “Mighty Warrior”.
At that time, South Dakota proposed a complete ban on abortion. I joined several IHOPU students in South Dakota standing in silent prayer before South Dakota’s only abortion clinic. We fasted, prayed, and fought hard that this righteous law would pass. However, in the end, when the people voted, it failed. I was so discouraged. However, I was still working on this song Mighty
Warrior. I finished the song in South Dakota adding the chorus from Isaiah 42:4, “You will not grow faint or be discouraged until you have established justice in the earth.” I was able to make it through this huge set back because, through singing Isaiah 42 in my devotional times, I had been beholding the One who will not grow faint or be discouraged until. In looking at Him, I am able to keep fighting and not grow faint or be discouraged until abortion ends.
Let the Captives Sing
The Story Behind the Song
6 “I am the LORD, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You, and I will appoint You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations, 7 To open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon and those who dwell in darkness from the prison. 8 I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images. 9 Behold, the former things have come to pass, now I declare new things; before they spring forth I proclaim them to you. 10
Sing to the LORD a new song, sing His praise from the end of the earth! You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it. You islands, and those who dwell on them.”
-Isaiah 42:6-10
“Let the Captives Sing”, a spontaneous song, expresses what happens when the Mighty Warrior comes forth. The Mighty Warrior, Jesus, is coming to free the prisoners of women forced into sex slavery. He is coming to break every chain of little boys forced to commit wickedness as child soldiers. The Father has given the nation’s His very own Light, His Son. He will shine into every dark place exposing all the lies and the wickedness of injustice.
He will come in response to the songs from the ends of the earth. The captives will sing. Human trafficking victims, former child soldiers, women whose lives have been destroyed by abortion…they will sing. Their songs will bring the Mighty Warrior to their very own rescue.
